Ample Adventures: Fat Camping

Dates: August 6-9, 2026

Location: Allegany State Park, Salamanca, New York
Host: Andrea DiMaio of Ample Movement

The outdoors belong to everyone, and this weekend we will make our own. This camping experience has been created specifically for fat folks and people in larger bodies, where you can show up exactly as you are and be fully, unapologetically welcomed. No diet talk, no unsolicited advice, no shrinking yourself to fit in. Just trees, a beautiful lake, camp fun, and people who get it.

Whether you're a seasoned camper or have never slept under the stars before, this weekend was made with you in mind. We'll swim, do yoga, journal in nature, gather around a campfire for s'mores, and take up every bit of space we deserve. We believe in fat liberation and that all bodies are good bodies, and that includes yours floating in a beautiful lake, finding stillness on a yoga mat, and getting a little smoky around the fire. Come ready to rest, play, and have the outdoor adventure you've always wanted. It will be up to you whether you want it to be easy going or if you want to do all the things.

This trip is for you if…

⛺️ You've been wanting to try camping but wanted to do it with people who actually get what it's like to be in a bigger body in the outdoors.

🌊 You want to swim in a lake, float on a paddleboard, hike through the woods, or just sit in the trees and breathe -- or all of the above.

🧘 You want to move your body joyfully, in community.

📓 You want to slow down, be in nature, and maybe fill a few pages in a journal.

🔥 You want to sit around a fire with people who share your values around body liberation and just…vibe.

🌈 You're fat and any other variation of underrepresented identities...and you're tired of outdoor spaces that weren't built for you.

Where we're camping...

Allegany State Park
The largest state park in New York, Allegany State Park is a 65,000 acre primitive forest valley known for its beautiful views, wildlife, and wonderful activities. There are two areas for you to explore, Red House and Quaker. Both areas can be enjoyed with picnic areas, museums, hiking trails, biking, and more.
Allegany State Park holds a special place in my heart — I grew up going there. The Quaker side is where we've held Fat Camping for the past two years and it keeps pulling us back. It's lush and covered in trees, the lake is gorgeous, and it has that perfect "actually in the woods" feeling without being in the middle of nowhere. It's beautiful, it's accessible, and it feels like home.

From a Past Fat Camper

I went to my first camping trip with Andrea in 2025. I had gradually gotten to know Andrea through some local events that she led, including yoga, hiking and snowshoeing. As more of a newbie to the camping space, Andrea had taken the time to show me how to set up a camp, and even shared her own gear where I was lacking my own.
I was never uncomfortable for the entirety of the long weekend. From all the optional planned activities to the folks that attended, everything felt well planned, relaxing and an energy building experience. Even after getting a flat tire on my way home, I still smiled back on the memories I collected all that following week. I still smile thinking about it.
Andrea encourages you to be who you are and to embrace new adventures at the level you are. She has helped me find a community that I feel fully accepted in. I can’t wait to attend more events led by Andrea.
