Fat Camping FAQs
Is this for women only? This trip is open to folks in underrepresented communities. Everyone joining us must be welcoming to transgender folks, non binary people and other gender minorities. You also must be welcoming to all sexualities. If you have further questions about this, email me directly.
Why is this event not for "all bodies"? Outdoor spaces have historically centered thin, able bodies. They are centered in their marketing, their gear sizing, their trail descriptions, and their culture. People in larger bodies often navigate fatphobia, inaccessible equipment, and the exhausting experience of being the only one, or of feeling like their body is an obstacle rather than an asset. This event exists to change that. By centering fat, plus size, and large-bodied folks, we create space for people to experience the outdoors without having to push through those barriers alone. It's not about excluding others, it's about finally including people who have too often been left out.
Do I have to do all the activities? Absolutely not. Everything except sleeping in your tent is optional. Come to what calls to you, skip what doesn't.
Can I bring my own paddleboard or kayak? Yes! Bring it. Bikes are welcome too.
What if I've never camped before? This is a great place to start. We'll help each other out and nobody's going to make you feel like you don't know what you're doing.
What if I'm a slow hiker? Perfect. We hike together, at the pace of the person who needs the most support.
What should I bring? Full packing list will be shared when you register.
I have more questions. Book a call with Andrea or send an email at [email protected]
