 A Weekend Fly Fishing Experience
for Women, Trans and Nonbinary folks

August 22 & 23

Jamestown, NY &
Allegheny River, Warren, PA
(exact location information will be shared when you register)

Have you ever wanted to try fly fishing but didn't know where to start, or wondered if it was even for you? This weekend you could find out.
Join us for a two-day beginner fly fishing experience designed for women, nonbinary and trans folks. No experience necessary. We'll all spend the weekend learning, and probably laughing (a lot), and getting our feet wet (literally) with this sport that can often feel intimidating. All bodies belong on the water.

Kimberly Brookshire (she/her)
Kimberly’s outdoor story started in 2016 as a long-distance thru-hiker, but it was a 2018 day on the water — and seven trout later — that hooked her for good. What began as a single trip quickly became an obsession, and these days when she’s not working or hiking, she’s almost certainly fishing.

In North Carolina, she found her people through Women on the Fly Carolinas, where friendship, skill-building, and good company on the river went hand in hand. That passion kicked into overdrive during the pandemic, when she and a close friend spent a month chasing trout across Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana — an arm-numbing, unforgettable trip that took her fly fishing to the next level.

Since then, her rod has traveled with her to New Mexico, Florida, Belize, Mexico, and all the way to Patagonia, South America — plus more states than she can count on one hand. She’s spent the last two years volunteering with the Mayfly Project, mentoring kids through fly fishing, and in May 2024 she founded the Phoenix Women’s Fly Fishing Club, building the same kind of community for women in Arizona that once welcomed her in North Carolina.

That lifelong passion for fly fishing eventually led Kimberly to start her own women’s-only fly fishing company (coming soon), Wildbrook Travel Co. Her hope is to do more than create amazing adventures for women all over the globe — she wants Wildbrook to be a safe space to learn, a supportive community to grow in, and a way to help women further their skills alongside other amazing women on the water.

About This Event Collaboration

This weekend is a collaboration between two organizations that believe the outdoors belongs to everyone.

Rooted Mountain Bike Festival is a nonprofit built at its core to create a safe and welcoming community that empowers women and genderqueer folks (WTFNB) in nature through education, encouragement, and an open-minded perspective while supporting local outdoor resources and regional recreation spaces.

Ample Movement exists to create joyful, weight-neutral outdoor and movement experiences for people in larger bodies and underrepresented communities because the outdoors belongs to everyone, in the body they have right now.

Cost: Tiered Pricing

Choose the price that works for you — all levels get the same weekend.
$50 — Community
This rate is here so cost is never the reason someone misses out. If this is what works for your budget right now, choose this with zero explanation needed.

$65 — Sustainer
This covers the true cost of your spot on the water and helps keep this weekend running.

$80 — Supporter
A little extra to help cover someone else's spot at the Community rate — thank you for making space for more people to join.

$130 — Pay It Forward (you + someone else)
This covers your spot and opens the door for another person to join at the Community rate. If you're able, this is a great way to expand who gets to be on the river with us.

A quick note: this pricing isn't about making a profit , it's just covering our actual out-of-pocket costs (instruction, gear, location, etc.) so we can keep this weekend accessible to as many people as possible. Due to this, payment is non-refundable.

If you would like to come just for the Saturday instruction, please email us and we can arrange a one day price. If you are going to fish on Sunday, the Saturday instruction is required. Use that email with any other questions you may have.

*This event has been approved for a special education fishing license waiver so participants do not have to purchase a fishing license for the day*
