10 Essentials- these are things that should be brought on every hike.

- Navigation (map, compass, personal beacon, downloaded offline maps)
- Headlamp and extra batteries
- Sun protection (hat, sunscreen-reef safe, with Zinc?, clothing with SPF, sunglasses)
- First aid (at least a few bandages, blister care, pain meds, bug spray, wound care)
- Knife
- Fire (waterproof matches, lighter, stove if out all day)
- Emergency shelter (bivy, emergency blanket)
- Extra food (more than you think you’ll eat
- Extra water and/or a way to filter water
- Extra clothing (rain gear, warmer layer)
- Extra socks*
- Some kind of traction like YakTrax, microspikes or snowshoes (if you live in a place that gets snow)*
