What to expect in any ample movement yoga class
- Everyone practices together regardless of if they are in a chair or on the floor.
- Class is taught from a trauma-informed lens. This means that every pose and breath practice is optional and set as an invitation. You are your own best teacher. You know your body and what you’ve experienced in life. There will never be any hands-on adjustments.
- All language used is gender-neutral.
- I make no assumptions about anyone as a teacher. I also invite you to check your assumptions about others in the class and also about yourself.
- If a pose does not work for you, we will work together to find a better fit for your body. Please don’t “suffer in silence” and let me know if something hurts or is uncomfortable. I will never tell you to “just rest in child’s pose”.
- All yoga classes are fat positive. Folks in all bodies are welcome and celebrated! I request that there is no weight loss or diet/lifestyle discussion or any negative comments made about anyone's body, even and especially your own.
- Absolutely zero homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, etc. will be tolerated.
A little yoga bio:
Hi, I'm Andrea DiMaio (she/her/they/them). I fiercely believe that yoga should be accessible to everyone who wants it. I believe that this means financially as well as physically. I am fat positive and teach from a Health At Every Size (HAES) lens. I believe in body liberation, radical self acceptance and that none of us are free unless we all are. I believe that we can use our yoga off the mat, as a practice of social justice. I believe in the decolonization of the western concept of yoga as a whole. Yoga began as an indigenous wisdom practice from South Asia that we should honor. I believe all bodies are yoga bodies.
I completed my 200 hour level teacher training through The Himalayan Institute of Buffalo in May of 2019. I finished my 300 hour level teacher training in The Path to Yoga, Justice and Equity offered by Dianne Bondy in April, 2022. I am also a Yoga For All certified instructor and an Accessible Yoga Ambassador.
I used to teach at a local studio that shut down due to Covid-19. Now, most of my classes are online and as of summer of 2021, I am also offering outdoor, in person classes. Click the links above for more information on all of those.
I am available for private and small group private sessions.
Reach out to me if you have any questions about and of the things I offer.
